Protecting your civil rights
Civil rights protect an individual from unwanted discriminatory behavior of the governments (federal, state). It has been seen that discrimination can be based on race, color, sex, etc. Universal Declaration for Human Rights (U.D.H.R) adopted by the U.N. general assembly in 1948 lists the rights in detail.
There has been a new addition in the previously existing civil rights laws i.e., Genetic Information Non-Discrimination Act (2008). In USA a victim needs to file a lawsuit in Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. Fair Housing Act is being used to protect discrimination but there is no provision for gay and lesbians in the act.
Before filing any suit it is important to know the chances for your victory. A lawyer is better in this field of evaluation. It is not possible for a commoner to understand the intricate details of law, as result an experienced lawyer with a specialization in particular filed should be sought.
